"Give Food, Clear Fines - Join Canned Food Day at Municipal Court"

Benefits of Canned Food Day

On this special day, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., defendants with monthly fine payments have the option to bring in canned food instead. For every 10 donated non-perishable food items, a month's payment towards their total fines is credited. It's a win-win situation where defendants can ease their financial burden while helping those in need. Regardless of the number of cans brought, the maximum credit on Canned Food Day is one month's payment. This initiative has a significant impact on the community. The food collected will be donated to the Great Falls Community Food Bank, ensuring that those facing food insecurity receive much-needed assistance. Set Free Ministries, a long-time supporter of the Municipal Court food collection, will be on site on the day of the drive to assist with food collections. Their dedication has made this event possible for over a decade. All food items donated during the event must be non-perishable. This ensures that the donated food can be stored and distributed effectively. It's important to note that donated food will not be returned if defendants are found to be ineligible. For more information about Canned Food Day and how you can participate, contact the Municipal Court at 406-771-1380. Eligibility Criteria

Not all defendants are eligible to participate in Canned Food Day. Those who are not current on fines, only paying restitution, in collections for the entire balance of fines/restitution, have an active warrant, have a deferred prosecution agreement, or are completing a work project (community service) in lieu of their fines are not eligible. It's important to ensure that only eligible defendants participate to make the event run smoothly and ensure the proper distribution of food. The Municipal Court's commitment to this event shows their dedication to the community and their willingness to find innovative ways to address financial obligations. By participating in Canned Food Day, defendants can fulfill their legal responsibilities while also giving back to the community. It's a powerful example of how small actions can have a big impact.
