Autumn Enchantment at Schenley Plaza: A Family-Friendly Celebration of the Season

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is inviting families to the final Schenley Plaza Kids Day of the 2024 season this Sunday. This special event promises to be a delightful celebration of autumn and Halloween, featuring themed entertainment, free activities, and delicious treats for all ages.

Unlock the Magic of Autumn at Schenley Plaza

A Carousel Ride Through the Changing Seasons

The Schenley Plaza Kids Day festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a full day of family-friendly fun. One of the highlights of the event will be the free carousel rides, which will be available throughout the last day of operation for 2024. Families can enjoy the gentle motion of the carousel as they take in the sights and sounds of the plaza, creating cherished memories.

Enchanting Encounters with Beloved Characters

Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to encounter costumed performers portraying beloved characters from the Harry Potter series. From the wise and benevolent Professor Dumbledore to the stern yet caring Professor McGonagall, and the mischievous Moaning Myrtle to the gentle giant Hagrid, these characters will bring the magic of the wizarding world to life. Attendees can interact with the performers, participate in potion-making and spell-casting demonstrations, and explore a variety of fantasy-themed toys and role-playing accessories from Silver Dragon Designs, a local creator.

Delectable Autumn-Inspired Treats

No celebration of the season would be complete without delicious treats. Schenley Scoops, the plaza's dessert outlet, will be offering a selection of fall-inspired ice cream flavors, such as apple pie and pumpkin pie. These sweet and creamy delights will be the perfect complement to the day's festivities, allowing families to indulge in the flavors of the season.

Captivating Musical Performances

In addition to the enchanting character encounters and delectable treats, the Schenley Plaza Kids Day will also feature a lineup of musical performances. Visitors can enjoy a lively jazz performance by Good Grooves, as well as an instrument "petting zoo" presented by Azure Family Concerts, where children can explore and interact with a variety of musical instruments. The event will also showcase the talents of Pittsburgh-based opera performers, adding a touch of classical elegance to the day's festivities.

Celebrating the Tradition of Kids Days

The tradition of Kids Days at Schenley Plaza began with the grand reopening of the redesigned plaza on June 8, 2006. Since then, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has continued to uphold this beloved tradition, providing special days that celebrate children and families. The Schenley Plaza Kids Day event is a testament to the conservancy's commitment to creating engaging and enriching experiences for the community.

A Sold-Out Community Campfire Event

In addition to the Schenley Plaza Kids Day, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is also hosting a Community Campfire event on Saturday, October 19th. This event, which first launched in 2016, has already sold out, highlighting the community's enthusiasm for the conservancy's family-friendly programming. Proceeds from the Community Campfire event will benefit the education programs at the Frick Environmental Center, further demonstrating the conservancy's dedication to supporting environmental education and stewardship. To learn more about the Schenley Plaza Kids Day and the complete calendar of fall events hosted by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, visit www.pittsburghparks.org/events.
