Honoring Those Who Serve: A Community's Tribute to Veterans and First Responders

In a heartwarming display of gratitude, a northwest Iowa community came together to show their appreciation for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect their fellow citizens. The second Hero Haven All Vehicle Poker Run, hosted by Sports'Center in Larchwood, South Dakota, was a testament to the community's commitment to supporting those who serve.

Giving Back to Those Who Give the Most

Rallying for a Worthy Cause

The Hero Haven All Vehicle Poker Run was more than just a fun-filled event; it was a way for the community to give back to the veterans and first responders who have sacrificed so much. The poker run, which made stops in Inwood, Hudson, Canton, Rowena, and Valley Springs, was organized by the nonprofit organization Hero Haven. This 501(c)3 charity is dedicated to providing outdoor adventures and experiences for those who have served their country and their communities."The people that run towards danger when everybody else runs away. We do these events to raise funds to be able to take men and women who have served our country out to do something they love," said Hero Haven co-founder Wade Blomgren. "When they go to pay the bill, we just say, 'Thank you, you've already paid enough.'"

Honoring Those Who Serve

The poker run was a unique way for the community to show their appreciation for the veterans and first responders who put their lives on the line every day. By participating in the event, attendees were not only enjoying a fun-filled day, but they were also contributing to a cause that directly benefits those who have sacrificed so much."These are the people that run towards danger when everybody else runs away," Blomgren said. "We do these events to raise funds to be able to take men and women who have served our country out to do something they love."

Upcoming Outdoor Adventures

One of the upcoming trips that Hero Haven plans to host is a pheasant hunt in Gregory, South Dakota, in December. This event will provide veterans and first responders with the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and participate in a sport they love, all while being surrounded by a community that supports and appreciates their service."When they go to pay the bill, we just say, 'Thank you, you've already paid enough,'" Blomgren said, highlighting the organization's commitment to ensuring that those who have served can enjoy these experiences without the financial burden.

Connecting with the Community

The Hero Haven All Vehicle Poker Run was more than just a fundraising event; it was a way for the community to come together and show their support for those who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving others. By participating in the event, attendees were not only contributing to a worthy cause, but they were also building connections with their fellow community members and fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie."The people that run towards danger when everybody else runs away," Blomgren said, underscoring the bravery and selflessness of the veterans and first responders who were being honored. "We do these events to raise funds to be able to take men and women who have served our country out to do something they love."

Empowering Those Who Serve

By providing veterans and first responders with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor adventures and experiences, Hero Haven is helping to improve their mental and physical well-being, and giving them the chance to reconnect with the activities and passions they love."When they go to pay the bill, we just say, 'Thank you, you've already paid enough,'" Blomgren said, highlighting the organization's commitment to ensuring that those who have served can enjoy these experiences without the financial burden.
