A 16-year-old in a stolen Jeep causes a four-vehicle crash on Michigan Ave.

On Wednesday night in Chicago, a 16-year-old driver took the wheel of a stolen Jeep and set off a chain of events that left multiple people injured. The incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Michigan Avenue when the southbound Jeep Cherokee ran a red light and collided with a Dodge van in the 700 block. This impact then led to a domino effect as the Dodge van crashed into a northbound Jeep Compass and a Honda SUV.

Driver's Attempt to Flee and Custody

The teenage driver of the Jeep Cherokee initially tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by responding officers. He was promptly transported to Stroger Hospital by paramedics and is currently in fair condition. A female passenger in the Jeep was also taken into custody and sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she is listed in fair condition as well.

Condition of Other Involved Parties

The driver of the Dodge van was transported to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition. Additionally, a 6-year-old girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital and is also in fair condition. The woman driving the Jeep Compass received treatment at Northwestern and is in fair condition. Two children, aged 4 and 6, from the Compass were also transported to Lurie's and are in fair condition.

Investigation and Charges

Police have confirmed that the Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen. As the investigation continues, charges against the teenage driver and his passenger are still pending.
