In a departure from the typically sluggish start of the year, Wilmington's culinary scene is buzzing with excitement. The city is hosting a variety of events, including book signings, chili cook-offs, and wine dinners, making January 2025 an exceptional month for food enthusiasts. Notable events include the return of renowned author Jim Meehan, Sweet n Savory Cafe’s wine dinner, Ponysaurus Brewing Co.’s birthday celebration, and several fundraising initiatives. A Month of Flavorful Celebrations

On January 10th, Wilmington welcomes cocktail connoisseur Jim Meehan, who will be promoting his latest literary work, The Bartender’s Pantry. The event takes place at Bourgie Nights, adjacent to manna on Princess Street. Industry professionals can attend a Q&A session from 2-4 p.m., while the evening social gathering from 6-8 p.m. offers attendees a chance to mingle and receive a complimentary copy of the book. Copies are also available for purchase at Old Books on Front Street.

The same day, Sweet n Savory Cafe invites guests to indulge in a winter-themed wine dinner. Held between 6-9 p.m., this intimate affair features hearty dishes that reflect the season’s robust flavors. Reservations are essential for this $69 per person event.

Ponysaurus Brewing Co. marks its first anniversary with a week-long celebration featuring discounted pizzas, beer flights, and live music by Ethan Hanson on Friday evening. Located on Market Street, the brewery promises a festive atmosphere throughout the week.

January 11th sees two significant milestones: Hi-Wire Brewing celebrates its fourth anniversary with a Peaks to Pints event, showcasing breweries from western North Carolina, and Leland Brewing Company hosts a fundraiser oyster roast. Attendees can enjoy fresh seafood, craft beers, and live music while contributing to local charities like NourishNC and Habitat for Humanity.

Eagle Island Fruit & Seafood partners with Circle Pit BBQ for a winter oyster roast on January 12th. Held downtown at Third Street, this all-you-can-eat event starts at 1 p.m. and offers advanced ticket pricing.

The Getaway Cafe & Provisions introduces its wine tasting evenings on January 16th within Wilmington’s Riverlights community. For $15, guests can sample four wines and choose their favorite glass to enjoy with a snack menu available.

Wrightsville Beach Brewery collaborates with Nothing Bundt Cakes on January 20th for a unique pairing of mini bundt cakes with house beers. This delightful combination is available all day at their Oleander Drive location.

Two major chili cook-offs take place on January 26th. The Bend partners with Make a Wish Eastern North Carolina for a noon-to-3 p.m. event where tasters can vote for their favorite chili for a $10 entry fee. Meanwhile, Brunswick Beer XChange in Leland hosts another chili cook-off benefiting the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Participants can sign up by January 24th and pay a $20 registration fee, while tasters can enjoy five samples for $5 starting at 2 p.m.
