





In a remarkable achievement, Western Carolina University's women’s tennis team has placed four players on the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. This recognition highlights their outstanding performance both academically and athletically. Among these honorees is Jade Groen, named Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, alongside Angela Perez, Chloe Schwarz, and Madison Schwarz. Jade Groen will also be considered for the prestigious Academic All-America team, with results to be revealed in June 2025. The CSC program celebrates student-athletes excelling in both academics and sports across various divisions.
Achievements Highlighted in Women's Tennis at Western Carolina
In the picturesque setting of Cullowhee, North Carolina, Western Carolina University celebrated an exceptional year for its women's tennis team. Notably, Jade Groen achieved a single-season record of 17 singles victories, maintaining an impressive 16-2 record as the No. 1 seed. Her academic excellence was equally commendable, achieving a GPA of 3.763 while studying Criminal Justice. Angela Perez, the lone graduating senior, set a personal best with 14 singles wins this season, becoming only the second Catamount player to surpass 40 career wins. With a GPA of 3.644 in Sport Management, she earned her second CSC Academic All-District honor.
Chloe Schwarz made a triumphant return, recording a 9-4 singles mark and partnering with Groen for a 10-5 doubles record. Her academic prowess in Integrated Health Sciences earned her a GPA of 3.907. Madison Schwarz contributed significantly with a career-high eight singles wins and 13 doubles victories. Studying Communications, she achieved a GPA of 3.92. These accomplishments underscore Western Carolina's commitment to fostering both athletic and academic excellence.
