Waymo Expands Austin Robotaxi Service Area, Outpacing Tesla

The competition for dominance in Austin's self-driving taxi sector is intensifying. Following Tesla's recent enlargement of its Austin Robotaxi operational zone, Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has responded with a substantial expansion of its own, reclaiming its position as the provider with the largest service footprint in the city.

Waymo's driverless car service now encompasses a 90-square-mile area within Austin, integrating new communities such as Crestview, Windsor Park, Sunset Valley, and Franklin Park. This strategic growth dwarfs Tesla's current operational area. Waymo has emphasized its comprehensive presence, noting it offers the sole round-the-clock, fully autonomous ride-hailing experience in Austin, supported by a fleet exceeding 100 vehicles.
