The Watertown Boys' Basketball Team is gearing up for another shot at glory. Last season, they achieved remarkable success, posting an overall record of 15 - 6 and a 10 - 2 mark in the Frontier League A/B division. However, they faced a tough defeat in the Section 3 Class AA quarterfinals at the hands of West Genesee. Now, under the guidance of Coach Ed Adams, the Cyclones are determined to build on that success and make another run.
Early Signs and Team Dynamics
Coach Adams is optimistic about this year's team. He sees a lot of depth with 7 seniors on the roster. The returners and the JV guys from last year bring a high basketball IQ. They are a team that likes to share the ball and play as a unit. Kyle Daly believes they have good guard play and shooters, allowing them to play fast and play good defense. Jack Adams emphasizes the strength in the guards and their ability to stretch teams out and attack weaknesses. John Flowers notes that the team is guard-heavy but will be quick and fast, able to outpace teams and tire them out.Challenges and Filling Gaps
This year, the team has some holes to fill in the starting lineup with the graduation of key players like Parker Moffett, Lawson Wise, and Seth Charlton. But the players are confident in their ability to overcome these challenges. They understand the importance of playing as a team and using every player on the floor. Nico Spaziani emphasizes the need to avoid individual stuff and play as a cohesive unit.Road to Repeating as Frontier League Champs
To repeat as Frontier League champs and make another run in Sectionals, the Cyclones know they need to stick to their game. They need to play as a team, utilize each player's strengths, and know their roles. Adams believes that if they do this, they should be very successful in both the league and in Sectional play. The team's first test comes on December 3 when they host General Brown in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
