Watertown and Aberdeen Central Gear Up for Competitive ESD Tennis Tournament

The high school girls tennis teams of Watertown and Aberdeen Central are set to compete in the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the Highland Park Courts. The tournament serves as the final action for both teams before they head to the state Class AA tournament on October 11-12 in Rapid City.

Watertown, led by head coach Ryan Zink, is gearing up for a highly competitive tournament. The team has had a successful dual season, finishing with a 15-4 record, including impressive wins over Rapid City Central and Aberdeen Roncalli. However, they faced a narrow 5-4 loss against Mitchell, a team Zink considers the favorite to win the tournament. Watertown's lineup boasts several standout players, including Ellie Zink, Leyla Meester, Sophia Nichols, and Jade Smith, who each went undefeated in singles matches during the Elliott Extravaganza. The team's doubles pairings, including Knie-Tennant, Comstock-Ladner, and Mady Holman-Estelle Riggs, also proved to be formidable, each winning two matches.
