The spree of car thefts and police chases began last week when four teens stole cars from a Lebanon car dealership. The following week, two teens were reported to have stolen vehicles at gunpoint in Clearcreek Township. The latest incident occurred on Monday morning, when a group of teens stole two cars from Liberty Township, driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph with their lights off just after midnight.Dashcam footage obtained by authorities showed one of the stolen vehicles being pursued by a police officer. "It's backed out in the one lane," the officer reported. "Speeds are 110. They almost crash trying to get off at exit 47." The teens eventually drove the stolen car into Dayton, where they abandoned the vehicle and scattered, with one teen being apprehended on foot.Unlocked Vehicles and Repeat Offenders
According to Franklin Police Chief Adam Colon, the majority of the stolen vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside, making them easy targets for the brazen thieves. "Most of these vehicles that are stolen, you'd have peeled columns and what not," Colon said. "That's not the case now. It seems to be that the vehicles are left unlocked with the keys in the vehicle."The group of teens has been targeting Warren and Butler counties, as well as northern Montgomery County, on a regular basis.
