VB Spine to Integrate Augmented Reality Navigation with Acquisition of xvision Spine System

VB Spine has finalized an agreement to purchase Augmedics' xvision Spine System, incorporating augmented reality (AR) navigation into its expanded suite of visualization solutions. This acquisition is poised to revolutionize spinal surgical procedures by merging cutting-edge AR technology with established surgical techniques.

The xvision Spine System is celebrated for its ability to combine the benefits of advanced navigation with the practicality of open surgery. This integration promises enhanced direct patient visualization, streamlined operational efficiency, heightened accuracy during procedures, and a notable reduction in radiation exposure for both patients and medical staff. To date, this innovative platform has been instrumental in the treatment of approximately 13,000 patients, showcasing its widespread impact and efficacy in the medical field. The forthcoming acquisition will strategically merge two distinct yet complementary portfolios, both dedicated to the advancement of spine care. This move is a pivotal element of VB Spine's overarching strategy to bolster its enhanced visualization technology capabilities.

Marc Viscogliosi, co-CEO of VB Spine, expressed his long-standing admiration for the xvision technology, emphasizing its considerable potential. He articulated a strong belief that with VB Spine's robust implant integration and extensive operational scale, the company is uniquely positioned to fully realize the transformative capabilities of AR navigation. Viscogliosi highlighted that the integration of xvision with their existing SpineHawk platform will significantly broaden their array of spinal solutions and reinforce their long-term vision. This vision aims to fundamentally redefine spine care through the deployment of highly differentiated and advanced technologies.

Paul Ziegler, President and CEO of Augmedics, commented on the agreement, stating that it will fortify their competitive edge as a leading innovator in augmented reality. He indicated that the transaction would enable Augmedics to concentrate on extending its reach into related surgical areas. Following the necessary approvals and the successful conclusion of the transaction, both VB Spine and Augmedics are committed to working together to ensure a seamless transition for all existing customers.

The xvision Spine System, along with its associated software, has already secured clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States. This clearance affirms its utility in precisely identifying anatomical structures during various spinal procedures, including open, minimally invasive, and percutaneous approaches.

This strategic acquisition represents a significant stride for VB Spine in its mission to integrate and optimize advanced surgical technologies. By combining the strengths of the xvision Spine System with its current offerings, VB Spine is set to offer more precise, efficient, and safer surgical options for patients requiring spinal care. The collaboration between VB Spine and Augmedics is expected to foster further innovation and set new benchmarks in the field of spinal surgery.
