Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and local theater groups are preparing unique shows that showcase both established works and innovative interpretations.

A Month of Musical Theater and Orchestral Excellence

Milwaukee's performing arts venues will be bustling with activity in January and February 2025. One of the highlights includes the arrival of the national tour of "Chicago," which will grace the stage of the Marcus Performing Arts Center from January 14-19. This iconic musical offers audiences a glimpse into the glittering world of 1920s Chicago through its timeless songs and dramatic storytelling. Additionally, the Marcus Performing Arts Center will also feature a performance by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on January 30, led by renowned trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, promising an evening filled with soulful jazz melodies.

The month of January will also see the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra taking center stage at the Bradley Symphony Center on January 24-25. Under the baton of concertmaster Jinwoo Lee, the orchestra will perform Sibelius' Violin Concerto, a masterpiece of Romantic-era classical music. As the year progresses, the MSO will continue its exploration of Baroque music with Rachell Ellen Wong's interpretation of Vivaldi’s "The Four Seasons" from January 31 to February 2. These performances not only highlight the technical prowess of the musicians but also offer listeners a journey through different eras of musical history.

Innovative Local Productions and International Acts

Beyond the major touring acts, Milwaukee's local arts scene will also shine with unique productions. The Milwaukee Opera Theatre and Danceworks Performance MKE have joined forces to present "Rusalka" in February, building on the success of their 2023 production. This collaboration brings together opera and contemporary dance, creating a visually stunning and emotionally powerful experience for audiences. Similarly, the Next Act Theatre will stage "The Children," directed by Marie Kohler, offering a thought-provoking drama that explores themes of legacy and change.

International talent will also make its mark on Milwaukee's stages. Cirque Kalabanté, an acclaimed circus troupe known for its acrobatic feats and mesmerizing performances, will take over the Marcus Performing Arts Center on January 29. This event promises to captivate audiences with its blend of athleticism and artistic expression. Together, these diverse performances underscore Milwaukee's commitment to fostering a rich and varied cultural landscape, appealing to both longtime residents and visitors alike.
