Union Local Jets Soar Past Buckeye Local in District Semifinal

In a thrilling district semifinal match at Harrison Central High School, the Union Local Jets demonstrated their prowess on the court with an impressive 56-20 victory over the Buckeye Local Panthers. Despite some early-game challenges, the Jets showcased remarkable teamwork and a strong second-half performance to secure their win.

The game saw Union Local taking a commanding lead of 34-15 by halftime. However, it was the third quarter that truly defined the match, as the Jets outscored the Panthers 21-3. Laken Vinskovich led the charge for Union Local, scoring 17 points total, with eight of those coming in the pivotal third quarter. Contributions from multiple players ensured a balanced score sheet, with Ameera Saunders, Myah Martin, Ella Pietranton, Delaney Butler, and Teegan Day each adding between six and nine points.

For the Panthers, senior Alyssa Dailey stood out with eight points, while freshman Brooke Driscoll added six. Although the final score wasn't what they had hoped for, Buckeye Local's coach Bailey McBeth praised her team's resilience and leadership, especially from the seniors. "Our girls played hard, and we saw a lot of toughness this season. This experience will help us build for the future," she remarked.

Moving forward, Union Local sets its sights on the District Championship, where they will face off against Martins Ferry. Coach Scooter Tolzda acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed confidence in his team's ability to rise to the occasion.
