








Daytona Beach is currently alive with the powerful roar of jets, not just race cars, as the United States Air Force Thunderbirds execute their precise aerial maneuvers. These remarkable F-16C and F-16D Flying Falcons have been practicing over the city, thrilling residents and providing an unforgettable experience for race car drivers in anticipation of the upcoming Daytona 500.
This year marks the seventeenth occasion that the Thunderbirds have graced the pre-race festivities of the Daytona 500, a tradition that consistently ignites patriotic fervor among spectators. Frank Kelleher, president of Daytona International Speedway, emphasized the profound impact of their flyover, stating that it evokes a deep sense of national pride and electrifies the atmosphere before the start of "The Great American Race." Adding to the excitement, drivers John Hunter Nemechek and Connor Zilisch had the unique opportunity to fly with the squadron during a recent practice session, an experience Zilisch described as "awesome."
The Thunderbirds are slated for a practice session on Saturday morning, February 14th, at 8:30 AM, with their main event flyover scheduled for Sunday, February 15th, as part of the pre-race ceremonies. This breathtaking display will precede the green flag of the 68th Daytona 500, promising a spectacular kickoff to one of the most anticipated events in motorsports. Nemechek, driving the No. 42 Toyota, will start 11th, while Zilisch, in the No. 88 Chevrolet, will begin from the 32nd position.
