TSMC's 'Ji Mi' Honey Symbolizes Eco-Friendly Chip Production

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has unveiled its unique honey brand, 'Ji Mi', a product directly stemming from the company's robust environmental and sustainability initiatives.

These efforts have yielded significant results, as TSMC has successfully revitalized the ecosystems surrounding its manufacturing facilities in Taiwan. This ecological renewal is evidenced by the reappearance of bees, along with indigenous species like the silver goby and fireflies, as reported by Liberty Times on Sunday. Ho Li-mei, TSMC's Senior Vice President of Corporate Sustainability, emphasized these achievements at the '2025 Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo – Co-Prosperity x Growth Forum', noting that the restoration of suitable plant life has been crucial in attracting bees back to the area. Furthermore, TSMC is actively collaborating with local beekeepers and Tunghai University to produce 'Ji Mi' honey, solidifying its commitment to local biodiversity and sustainable practices. The company has also made impressive strides in resource conservation within the water-intensive semiconductor industry, achieving over 90% water recycling rates in its new facilities and an overall waste recycling rate of approximately 97%.

TSMC's dedication to environmental stewardship is not a new endeavor. In January, the company partnered with MTR Carbon Capture to implement a Polaris membrane carbon capture system at its Taichung Zero-Waste Manufacturing Center. This strategic move aimed to mitigate emissions from a solvent incineration plant in Taiwan, further reducing TSMC's carbon footprint. Such initiatives are particularly vital given the semiconductor industry's substantial environmental impact, especially with the surging demand from data centers for artificial intelligence and cloud computing, which places increasing pressure on power grids and ecological resources.
