Tragic Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of 69-Year-Old Man

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a 69-year-old man in the town of Western, New York. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 20th, when the man's motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Stokes-Westernville Road and Hilltop Road.

The Fateful Collision

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 20th. Deputies received a call about a crash in the town of Western, near Hilltop Road. An investigation revealed that the victim, Rick Reed, 69, of Rome, was operating a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle and traveling eastbound on Stokes-Westernville Road. At the same time, Carol Anderson, 74, of Long Boat Key, Florida, was driving her 2024 Subaru Outback and stopped at the intersection of Hilltop Road and Stokes-Westernville Road. Anderson, accompanied by her husband Clifford, 82, in the passenger seat, was attempting to turn westbound onto Stokes-Westernville Road when they entered the intersection.

The Tragic Aftermath

The collision occurred when Reed and his motorcycle struck the front end of Anderson's vehicle, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Reed was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Carol and Clifford Anderson were both transported by AmCare Ambulance to the same hospital for minor injuries.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Westernville Fire Department, and North Country Towing. The crash is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Unit, with the assistance of the Reconstruction Unit and the ID Unit.
