Tragic Ending: Woman's Desperate Attempt to Flee Domestic Abuse Ends in Heartbreak

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a woman's attempt to escape a domestic dispute ended in tragedy as she drove off a dead-end road and into the Broad River, ultimately losing her life. The incident, which unfolded in Richland County, South Carolina, has left the community and authorities grappling with the devastating consequences of domestic violence.

Responding to a Domestic Incident

The Richland County Sheriff's Department received a call regarding a domestic incident at 1630 Longcreek Drive. As deputies responded to the scene, they were informed by dispatch that the suspect had struck the caller with her vehicle and was attempting to do so again.

A Harrowing Pursuit and Tragic Outcome

When the deputies arrived, the suspect spotted them and fled in the opposite direction. Several deputies immediately jumped out, entered the water, and tried to locate and rescue her. Despite the efforts of the deputies, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, and the Department of Natural Resources, the woman's body was found in the submerged vehicle about an hour and a half later. Tragically, she was pronounced dead after the rescue attempts.

A History of Domestic Abuse

According to the victim's family, the man the woman is accused of striking with her car was abusive towards her earlier in the day. Shanequa Scott, the victim's mother, stated that her daughter had called the police earlier that morning due to another domestic violence incident, during which the man had "beaten her really bad" and "choked her out."

While the Richland County Sheriff's Department could not confirm any previous incidents between the victim and the suspect, the Richland County Coroner's Office and the Richland County Sheriff's Department are continuing to investigate the tragic incident.
