The 2025 drag racing season has officially begun with a bang at WWT Raceway, where racers from various classes showcased their exceptional skills. The event, originally postponed due to inclement weather, was successfully rescheduled, highlighting the dedication of race organizers to accommodate passionate drivers and fans alike. Among the highlights were stellar performances by seasoned champions and promising young talents. Drivers competed in categories such as Super Pro, Pro Class, VP Racing Lubricants Sportsman, Commercial Safe & Lock Super Pro Bike, Jr. Thunder, Jr. Lightning, Ranken Technical College High School, and Marine Coin Jr. Street. Each class featured intense rivalries and nail-biting finishes that left spectators on the edge of their seats.
On a sunny day perfect for racing, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as competitors prepared for what would become one of the most memorable races of the year. Bracket Race One proved particularly thrilling, featuring a four-time champion reasserting dominance while another world-class racer demonstrated why they are considered among the best in the sport. Meanwhile, local favorites navigated fierce competition, and high school participants impressed everyone with their burgeoning talent.
In the Super Pro category, two powerhouse drivers faced off in an electrifying showdown. Danny Ratulowski and Luke Bogacki delivered near-perfect reaction times throughout the day, culminating in an awe-inspiring final round. Despite Danny narrowly edging out Luke with a slight red-light start (.001), both athletes exhibited remarkable precision under pressure. Earlier rounds also saw commendable efforts from John Tignor and Greg Cullum, who each achieved flawless .000 reaction times.
The Pro Class finals pitted Tommy Barbero against Jesse Garcia in a clash of experience and strategy. Leveraging a significant starting line advantage, Barbero managed to overcome Garcia’s precise dial-in performance by executing superior timing at the finish line. Their respective semifinal victories over Ron Beach III and Craig Powell set the stage for this dramatic conclusion.
VP Racing Lubricants Sportsman witnessed a compelling battle between former champions Luke Beach III, Craig Powell, and Brad Kaemmerer. In the end, Powell triumphed using strategic adjustments despite Beach III’s quicker initial launch. This victory underscored Powell’s adaptability across multiple classes during the event.
The Commercial Safe & Lock Super Pro Bike final paired veteran Mark Abrams with Darrell Dickerson. Although Dickerson had eliminated formidable opponents like the Klemme brothers, it was Abrams’ consistent accuracy that secured him the win. His ability to match his dial-in perfectly highlighted his mastery of the craft.
Young talents Brayden Hearn and Gary Bogacki shone brightly in the Jr. Thunder division. Hearn capitalized on his advantageous reaction time and steady execution to prevail over Bogacki, whose aggressive push ultimately resulted in overextension. Similarly, in the Jr. Lightning category, Cohen Hale edged out Sarah Stewart through impeccable timing at the start and accurate adherence to his dial-in.
Ranken Technical College High School racing added another layer of excitement when Bobby Meyers narrowly defeated Cohen Hale, who earlier had shown resilience defeating Timothy Hearn. These emerging stars continue to refine their techniques, promising great things for future competitions.
Leah Thomas capped off the day’s events with a stunning victory in Marine Coin Jr. Street. Her razor-thin margin of victory exemplified the level of skill required even at junior levels, reinforcing the importance of meticulous preparation and execution.
This opening event of the 2025 drag racing season not only demonstrated the prowess of established champions but also heralded the arrival of new contenders ready to make their mark. As temperatures rise alongside spirits, anticipation builds for more exhilarating matchups ahead in what promises to be an unforgettable season.
