Volunteer Amy Abrams kicked off the drive with a delightful batch of homemade chocolate cupcakes, while Volunteer Suzie Schonder followed suit with her own decadent chocolate creations. The aroma of freshly baked goods filled the air, fueling the energy and enthusiasm of the phone room.
The drive wouldn't have been possible without the savory offerings from local eateries. Bavaro's Pizza Napoletana & Pastaria provided hearty penne marinara for Thursday's lunch, while Olde Heights Bistro delighted the team with chicken alfredo and vegetable fried rice on Tuesday. Petra Middle Eastern Cuisine's falafel, chicken, hummus, rice, and salad nourished the volunteers on Monday, and Tijuana Flats donated a tasty lunch on Sunday.
Keeping the team hydrated and energized, Acoustic Peace Club Host Tom Elligett brought a refreshing supply of juices, and Mother Kombucha donated cases of their signature probiotic-rich beverage. Smoothie King, a dedicated supporter, made multiple deliveries of their nutritious smoothies throughout the drive.
The diversity of the food donations was truly remarkable. Volunteer Gabrielle Ayala's peanut butter cookies and pumpkin bread were crowd-pleasers, while Tammy Cappleman's gazpacho and chickpea salad provided a healthy alternative. Eluv, host of Ultrasounds, shared her vegan split pea soup, and Volunteer JoEllen Schilke's Greek-inspired rice pilaf dish added a touch of Mediterranean flair.
Mornings were made brighter with the arrival of breakfast offerings. Monday Morning Show Host Louise Coogan baked quiche, while Volunteer Jim Shirk brought delectable egg cups. Café Vino Tinto, a new donor, and State Flour Bakery provided an array of pastries and cookies to start the day off right.
No membership drive would be complete without a selection of sweet treats. "Cheesecake Richard" Taborn of Rich D'lites delighted the team with his signature cheesecakes, apple nut cakes, and brownies. Volunteer Blannie Whelan's pumpkin cookies were a hit, and TCM Cookie owner Breanna Browning dropped off a variety of cookies to satisfy the collective sweet tooth.
The food donations fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among the volunteers and staff. Volunteers Lori and Joe Kahl brought savory and sweet snacks, as well as pizza to share on Saturday. Board Op Jimmy Coley's sandwich and chip delivery on Saturday night was a welcome surprise, and Volunteer Vinny Scully's amazing breakfast spread on Saturday morning set the tone for the day.
The food donations showcased the diverse culinary talents and cuisines of the local community. Jerk Hut's jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains added a Caribbean flair, while Decosmo Italian Market's sandwiches and New York, New York Pizza's pies represented the Italian influence. Volunteer Joslyn Kearns' vegan chili and Donna Wallace's pasta and rolls demonstrated the versatility of the offerings.
The WMNF team extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the generous food donors who contributed to the success of the membership drive. As the community radio station continues to thrive, these food donors have played a vital role in sustaining the airwaves and bringing the community together.
