



Tesla is reportedly developing a new iteration of its Model 3 sedan, which promises to redefine electric vehicle driving range. This forthcoming variant, provisionally named Model 3+, is expected to significantly extend the distance an electric vehicle can travel on a single charge, addressing a key concern for many potential EV owners. Details emerging from regulatory filings in China hint at a groundbreaking enhancement in battery technology and efficiency, positioning this new model as a leader in its class.
The revelation stems from a recent submission to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). According to these documents, the new vehicle will be a single-motor, rear-wheel drive configuration, distinguished by a more powerful 225kW motor. Unlike the existing rear-wheel drive Model 3, which utilizes LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery cells, this innovative version will integrate LG's ternary lithium-ion cells. This shift to a higher energy density battery type is a crucial factor enabling the projected increase in range. Interestingly, the external dimensions and wheelbase length of this new Model 3+ appear to remain consistent with the current base Model 3, suggesting that the primary advancements lie within its power train and battery system.
Currently, the Model 3 with the most extensive range available in China boasts a CLTC-estimated 753 kilometers. The upcoming Model 3+ is anticipated to push this boundary even further, potentially exceeding 800 kilometers, which translates to roughly 500 miles. Such an achievement would mark a significant milestone for Tesla, establishing a new benchmark for range within its lineup. It's worth noting that range estimates can vary based on testing standards; for instance, U.S. EPA figures for the current Model 3 are typically lower than those derived from China's CLTC cycle.

A new variant of the Model Y, designated Model YL, also underwent regulatory filing with the MIIT.
