TCNJ Women's Tennis Team Dominates NJAC Awards

The TCNJ women’s tennis team has shown exceptional prowess by sweeping all three major awards in the All-NJAC Team announcement. Six of their starters have been recognized on either the all-conference singles or doubles rosters. Zoey Albert, previously named Rookie of the Year, advanced to Player of the Year status in her sophomore year, earning dual All-Conference honors in both singles and doubles. Shruti Mannan received Rookie of the Year accolades, joining Albert and Aira Abalos on both the singles and doubles All-NJAC lists. Additional honorees include Gabrielle Brideau (singles), Gabriella Robinson (singles), and Anusha Perinkolam (doubles).

Albert exhibited remarkable consistency throughout the season, achieving an undefeated 8-0 record in NJAC matches for both singles and doubles. Mannan made a significant impact in her debut season with a perfect 4-0 record at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. Abalos continued her strong performance from the previous year, maintaining a 12-4 singles and 10-6 doubles record during the regular season. Brideau earned recognition for her 10-3 overall singles record, while Robinson was unbeaten in conference matches. Lastly, Perinkolam demonstrated impressive form in her first season, finishing 4-0 in conference doubles matches.

Zoey Albert: A Rising Star in Singles and Doubles

Zoey Albert has emerged as a standout player in both singles and doubles categories, leading her team to numerous victories. Her dominance in NJAC matches is evident through an impeccable 8-0 record across both disciplines. In singles, she surrendered only three games, whereas in doubles, she gave up just one game. This consistent excellence culminated in her being named Player of the Year, marking a significant leap from her previous Rookie of the Year title. Her overall season record stands at an impressive 26-6, showcasing her reliability and skill.

Albert’s journey from rookie to player of the year reflects not only her personal growth but also her pivotal role in her team's success. Throughout the season, she consistently performed at the highest level, excelling against formidable opponents. Her ability to maintain focus and precision under pressure set her apart. Whether playing singles or doubles, Albert displayed versatility and adaptability, contributing significantly to the team's overall achievements. Her contributions were crucial in securing key wins against top-tier competition, further solidifying her reputation as a formidable athlete in collegiate tennis.

Emerging Talent Shines Bright in NJAC Matches

Shruti Mannan, Aira Abalos, and other teammates have played integral roles in bolstering the team’s strength. Mannan, in her inaugural season, achieved a perfect 4-0 record at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, losing only one game across all eight NJAC matches. She compiled an overall record of 28-4, defeating notable teams such as RPI, Rochester, and SUNY New Paltz. Meanwhile, Abalos maintained a robust 12-4 singles record and a 10-6 doubles record, demonstrating her resilience and endurance over the season.

Mannan’s rapid ascent highlights her potential as a future star in collegiate tennis. Her performances earned her both Player and Rookie of the Week honors, underscoring her immediate impact on the team. Abalos, a seasoned veteran, continued to shine, especially in NJAC matches where she remained undefeated at No. 2 singles. Other contributors like Gabrielle Brideau and Gabriella Robinson added depth to the team’s lineup. Brideau excelled primarily from court six, finishing with a commendable 10-3 record, while Robinson remained unbeaten in NJAC matches, enhancing the team’s dominance. Together, these athletes formed a formidable force, aiming to secure their 42nd consecutive NJAC championship against Stockton on April 26th.
