A new round of price increases has been initiated by T-Mobile, affecting customers with older plans. According to a leaked memo acquired by CNET, the company is set to raise prices for certain subscribers due to escalating costs over recent years. This marks the latest in a series of adjustments that began last year, impacting various legacy plans while sparing current offerings like Go5G and those with Price Lock guarantees. Customers affected by the hike will see their monthly charges increase by $5 per line starting April 2, 2025.

John Freier, the president of T-Mobile’s consumer group, cited rising expenses as the reason behind the decision. Notifications regarding the price changes have started reaching impacted users this week. A Reddit user shared what appears to be a screenshot of the notification message, highlighting the first significant update to older service plans in nearly a decade. The adjustment maintains all existing benefits, keeping the plan type and billing date consistent.

Although T-Mobile hasn't explicitly listed which plans are affected, feedback from Reddit suggests that Magenta MAX and T-Mobile ONE plans are among those hit. Subscribers dissatisfied with the change can utilize the Un-contract Promise, allowing them 60 days to inform T-Mobile of their intention to leave, with the company covering the final month's recurring charges.

In justifying these increases, T-Mobile emphasizes that, despite the adjustments, its customers generally pay less compared to competitors. The carrier assures that the modifications aim to balance cost management while continuing to provide value to its clientele.

Despite the lack of clarity on exactly which plans are impacted, T-Mobile remains committed to offering flexibility through its Un-contract Promise. For affected customers, this period provides an opportunity to reassess their options without financial penalty, ensuring a smoother transition if they choose to depart.
