Summit High School Nordic Ski Team Triumphs in Home Race

The Summit High School Nordic ski team demonstrated remarkable performance and resilience during their home race at the Gold Run Nordic Center, setting a positive tone for the upcoming state championship. The event showcased not only individual achievements but also the collective strength of the team.

Under ideal weather conditions, the girls' team excelled, with several athletes securing top positions. Senior Ella Hagen led the charge, finishing second overall with an impressive time of 14 minutes and 37 seconds. Freshman Elsie Robinson followed closely, placing sixth with a time of 15 minutes and 41 seconds. The team's depth was evident as multiple skiers, including Marin Little and Heidi Frey, secured spots within the top 20. With five athletes qualifying under the state mark, the girls' team accumulated 202 points, securing a victory over Battle Mountain and Lake County.

The boys' team also delivered an outstanding performance, capturing the win with a total of 229 points. Junior Carter Niemkiewicz and sophomore Johnny Ryan dominated the competition, finishing second and first respectively. Despite some pre-race jitters, the team's depth shone through, with several skiers contributing to the overall success. Senior James Sowers and others rounded out the top finishes, highlighting the team's consistent effort and camaraderie.
