A mother from Statesboro, Georgia, has been charged with multiple counts of child neglect after authorities discovered her children were not receiving proper nourishment while living in a hotel room. Brittany Shannell Fields, 36, was arrested for allegedly depriving eight of her children of necessary sustenance, placing their health and well-being at risk. The case has drawn attention due to its severity and the complex family dynamics involved.

On December 12th, police responded to a report at the Stay-Plus Extended Suites located off Highway 67. Upon investigation, they found that Fields' children—ranging in age from one to fourteen years old—were severely malnourished. Documents indicate that Fields may have additional children beyond those involved in this case. She was formally taken into custody on December 19th, facing thirteen felony charges related to first-degree child cruelty involving deprivation of sustenance. During questioning, Fields mentioned she might currently be pregnant.

Local authorities have also documented incidents suggesting instability within the family environment. Reports mention an abandoned vehicle linked to Fields across Bulloch County and a previous altercation between her and one of her sons in 2021.
