State Street Ballet's 30th 'The Nutcracker' with 150+ performers

State Street Ballet is set to celebrate an incredible 30 years of "The Nutcracker" with a production that is truly a sight to behold. This year's event will feature over 150 dancers, musicians, and performers, taking the stage on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 at The Granada Theatre.

Highlighting the Production

After successful tours to Spokane, Washington, and Durango, Colorado, the company is now bringing its home performances to Santa Barbara. The shows will take place at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 21, and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 22. The production will showcase students from the State Street Ballet Academy alongside professional dancers from the main ensemble, as well as trainees from the Professional Track program. Live music will be provided by the Opera San Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra, conducted by Brian Asher Alhadeff. The SING children's choir of Music Academy of the West will also add to the magic.This year's cast is truly exceptional. Two Music Academy students, Chanel von Yurt (Saturday matinee) and Catalina Brace (Sunday matinee), will be part of the show. Additionally, company artist Brenna Chumacero (Saturday evening) will take on the role of Clara. The Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Akari Kato and Saori Yamashita, with Cavaliers Harold Mendez and Ryan Lenkey. Sergei Domrachev will perform as Herr Drosselmeyer and Mother Ginger.A highlight of the production is a brand new snow pas de deux, choreographed by Nilas Martins. He is a former principal dancer with New York City Ballet and the new artistic associate of State Street Ballet. Aimee Le and Maria Rita Rapisarda will dance the Snow Queen, while Ethan Ahuero and Ryan Lenkey will portray the Snow King.The production also features remarkable costume design by A. Christina Giannini, Nicole Thompson, and Mary Etta Lang; set design by Daniel Nyiri and Yuriy Samodurov; and mask and doll design by Robert Joyce.
