Keeping Kids Safe on the Road: New York State Police Offer Free Car Seat Inspections

In a proactive effort to ensure the safety of young passengers, the New York State Police are hosting two child car seat safety check events as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week. These events aim to provide parents and caregivers with the necessary guidance and support to properly install and use car seats, ultimately reducing the risk of injury in the event of a collision.

Ensuring the Highest Standards of Child Passenger Safety

Comprehensive Car Seat Inspections

The New York State Police are dedicated to providing comprehensive car seat inspections to parents and caregivers. During these events, trained child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to assist with the proper installation of car seats and booster seats. Whether you're unsure about the correct way to secure your child's seat or simply want to double-check its installation, these experts will be available to answer any questions and ensure your child's safety.Recognizing that every child and vehicle is unique, the troopers will work closely with attendees to tailor the car seat installation to their specific needs. By taking the time to thoroughly inspect each seat and provide personalized guidance, they aim to give parents the confidence and peace of mind that their child is traveling as safely as possible.

Convenient Locations and Scheduling

The first car seat safety check event will be held on September 15th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Otsiningo Park in the Town of Dickinson. This event will coincide with the "Paws for a Cause" dog walk, providing a convenient opportunity for families to have their car seats inspected while enjoying the park's amenities. The second event will take place on September 21st at the Broome County Fairgrounds in Whitney Point. During this time, the troopers will also be participating in the "Touch a Truck" event, allowing children to explore various emergency vehicles and learn about their important roles in the community. While appointments are preferred, they are not strictly necessary. Parents and caregivers can simply arrive at the designated locations during the scheduled times and receive assistance from the trained technicians. However, those who wish to schedule an appointment can do so by calling Troop C Traffic at 607-561-7604.

Ensuring Compliance with Safety Standards

The New York State Police's commitment to child passenger safety extends beyond the inspection events. Troopers are trained to identify and address any issues with car seat installation or usage during routine traffic stops. By proactively educating drivers and ensuring compliance with safety standards, they aim to reduce the number of preventable injuries and fatalities involving young passengers. These car seat safety check events are a testament to the New York State Police's dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community. By providing free, expert-led inspections and guidance, they are empowering parents and caregivers to make informed decisions and keep their children safe on the road.
