Sports Highlights: Bowling, Basketball, and Gymnastics Triumphs

Recent weeks have seen a flurry of sporting activities in the community, with notable achievements in bowling, basketball, and gymnastics. The Tim Fristoe Youth/Adult Tournament crowned its winners, while spirited basketball matches showcased young talent. Meanwhile, local gymnasts excelled at regional competitions, bringing home numerous accolades.

Bowling and Basketball Successes

The Tim Fristoe Youth/Adult Tournament at Sunset Bowling Center concluded successfully on March 9th, with several teams earning scholarships. Carter Hilliard and Brian Hilliard secured the top spot, winning a $135 scholarship. Following closely were Micheal Dauwe and Mike Dauwe, who claimed second place with an $110 scholarship. Other noteworthy performances included Owen Perry and Eric Platt in third, Gavin Grossglauser and Caleb Kearl in fourth, Emerie Walker and Patrick Walker in fifth, Joseph Ovendale and Zac Ovendale in sixth, and Abby Kuespert and Stew Kuespert in seventh place.

In basketball, Spirit Lake witnessed intense games among the 5-7th grade teams. Intermax faced off against Plummer Forest Products, ending with a score of 22-6. Hot Shots narrowly edged out Intermax 12-10, while Spirit Lake Family Dental tied with Hot Shots at 9-6. North Idaho State Fair dominated Retrofit Athletics, winning 16-6. Additionally, Hayden Recreation hosted multiple basketball matches for various age groups, highlighting individual and team achievements. Teams like Bighouse Automotive and Psych Collective demonstrated exceptional skill, with standout players contributing significantly to their teams' scores.

Gymnastics Excellence at Regional Competitions

Avant Coeur gymnasts traveled to Frenchtown, Montana, for the Mismo Magical Meet, where they achieved remarkable results across different levels. Level 2 gymnasts, including Ella Williams and Quinn Widmyer, earned top placements on bars, beam, floor, and all-around categories. At Level 3, Vida Wohletz and Lala Underdahl shone, securing impressive scores. Higher-level gymnasts, such as Shea McGinnis and Arrow Babowicz, continued to impress judges with their advanced routines. Notably, Level 6 gymnast Jonni Ridolph took first place all-around, while Mia Fletcher and Ruby Brucick also performed exceptionally well.

GEMS Athletic Center gymnasts competed in the Snowglobe Classic in Post Falls, achieving significant success. The Bronze Team placed second overall, with Olivia Butcher and Aubrey Krebs leading the charge. The Silver Team emerged victorious, with Grace Ohlenkamp and Felicity Hammer standing out. The Gold Team secured second place, featuring strong performances from Katelynn Clark and Sydney Thompson. The Platinum Team also placed second, with Olivia Kiser and Macee Caudle excelling. Finally, the Diamond Team's Dakota Caudle and Evyn Lyon contributed to their team's second-place finish. These accomplishments underscore the dedication and skill of these young athletes.
