Allison lightheartedly quips, "Simu often says, 'God bless America!'" when their initial meeting is mentioned. After nearly three years of courtship, Simu orchestrated a surprise proposal to Allison on May 10, 2025. The romantic scene unfolded on the rooftop of the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, complete with a string quartet and a private dinner, where her closest friends and family, secretly flown in by Simu, were waiting.
For their autumnal nuptial celebration in early October, the couple revisited France, choosing the picturesque region of Provence for a weekend of festivities meticulously planned by Lisa Vorce. Allison recounted, "The moment we discovered Carrières des Lumières and Château d'Estoublon during our initial venue search, we knew Provence was the perfect canvas for our dream celebration." She added, "Bringing our vision to life required the collaboration of an incredible community, including our friends, family, and our exceptionally talented and generous team led by Lisa. This collective effort made the planning process a true joy, not just for us as a couple, but for everyone involved." The celebrations commenced on Thursday evening with a private rehearsal dinner for family and the wedding party at Château d'Estoublon. Allison graced the event in an Alexis gown, adorned with rosette details and a pleated skirt, complemented by a Lady Dior bag from Jonathan Anderson's fall 2026 water lilies collection. She reminisced, "It felt like carrying a piece of art as we wandered through the chateau, embracing the beauty of our surroundings and the escalating excitement for our wedding weekend." The subsequent evening saw guests reconvene at Carrières des Lumières, a repurposed limestone quarry in Les Baux-de-Provence now an immersive art exhibition space. The couple had reserved the entire venue, allowing guests to wander through captivating projections of works by Picasso and Frida Kahlo before being led to an al fresco cocktail reception. Dinner was presented family-style at two extensive tables, softly illuminated by countless candles.
Allison chose a Georges Hobeika gown, intricately beaded, for the welcome party—the very first outfit she selected for her wedding attire. She explained, "It was one of those dresses you see and instantly know you must have. I envisioned greeting our guests on the first night in an ensemble that mirrored the venue's splendor, and this dress surpassed all expectations. It will forever be one of my most cherished garments." The evening’s revelry extended beyond dinner, as a group of guests, including Woody Harrelson, returned to the chateau for an intense 20-person game of Mafia, lasting until 4 a.m. Allison playfully remarked, "Essentially, until we needed our beauty sleep for the wedding day." On Saturday, rain clouds gathered over Château d'Estoublon as guests arrived for the 5:30 p.m. ceremony. Despite intermittent showers throughout the afternoon, and umbrellas still open during the procession, the rain ceased dramatically just as the bride made her appearance, allowing for a largely dry ceremony. For her wedding gown, Allison opted for a design by Nicole + Felicia, a label founded by Taiwanese sisters Nicole and Felicia Chang. This choice held particular significance for Allison, whose parents were born and raised in Taiwan and met while attending university in Taipei. She elaborated, "Wearing a creation by a powerful Taiwanese sister duo on my wedding day was a perfect way to honor my heritage. My parents and sister were deeply moved when I shared the story behind the dress with them." Simu also paid homage to his background through his wedding attire, collaborating with Garrison Bespoke, an Asian-Canadian owned company, for his custom suit, which he paired with a favorite Versace jacket.
Their friend and groomsman, Jason Y. Lee, officiated the ceremony. Woody Harrelson delivered a touching reading of "Blessing of the Hands" by Reverend Daniel Harris, while Allison’s brother Joshua read Robert Fulghum’s "Union." The couple exchanged personal vows they had written themselves. Simu reflected, "I was captivated by the sheer perfection of everything. Our friends and guests looked magnificent, and the moment Allison appeared at the aisle's top, I was overcome with emotion, gazing at my life partner." He found the timing of the rain especially poignant. "The rain just before our ceremony was the most convincing proof I've ever encountered that something beyond our understanding exists," Simu noted. "I had often thought of my grandparents, who passed from COVID in 2021. Yeye and Nainai raised me in China until I was four and a half, and I've always felt a profound connection to them." In the months preceding the wedding, Simu frequently dreamt of his grandparents. He continued, "Just before the ceremony, a gentle drizzle fell as my parents were seated. It seemed too coincidental, the timing and the soft drops, as if a message of reassurance was being sent from above. Even now, the memory defies my logic. A part of me believes they were present with us. I hadn't initially included them in my vows, but I felt compelled to tell Allison that I believed Yeye and Nainai would have adored meeting her." Following their pronouncement as husband and wife, the newlyweds departed in a vintage green convertible, as the sun began to emerge from behind the clouds. Guests then gathered in the gardens for cocktails, before proceeding to an outdoor dinner reception under a canopy of twinkling string lights. For the reception, Allison changed into a custom version of Danielle Frankel's Lua dress, a sleek column silhouette she wore for dinner, the cake cutting, and their first dance. Allison shared, "I’ve always admired Danielle Frankel’s innovative designs. The exquisite, delicate fabric of this gown moved so gracefully during our first dance that the dress felt like an extension of myself." After heartfelt speeches from the couple’s parents, Allison’s maid of honor Randi, and Simu’s best man Peter, the newlyweds cut into a multi-tiered wedding cake featuring matcha and vanilla flavors. Their friend Reneé Rapp then took the stage, performing Etta James’s "At Last" for their first dance. Brooklyn Soul kept guests on the dance floor until the after-party began at 11 p.m. Later, Canadian DJ duo Loud Luxury, also Simu’s fellow Western University alumni, took over, playing a set that included their hit "Body" and a remix of Taylor Swift’s "The Fate of Ophelia." For her late-night attire, Allison envisioned something short, sparkling, and perfect for dancing. She chose hand-beaded mini dresses by Rosie Etienne and Galia Lahav. She enthused, "From the outset, I knew I wanted to conclude our wedding night with shimmering, sparkling brilliance. The intricate beadwork on each dress was executed so skillfully. Discovering and trying on these fantastic party dresses with Rosie and Galia was one of my favorite aspects of the entire wedding planning." At 1 a.m., Simu’s friend and Shang-Chi co-star Benedict Wong made a surprise appearance as his musical alter-ego, DJ Obi-Wong, keeping the celebration vibrant into the early morning hours. Allison concluded, "Looking back, we are simply overwhelmed with gratitude. We are still processing the fact that we had the privilege of celebrating the beginning of our marriage with our beloved friends and family in a place as enchanting as Provence and at venues as exceptional as Carrières des Lumières and Estoublon." For the couple, the weekend was as much about the contributions of everyone who made it possible as it was about the celebration itself. Allison reflected, "We continue to be touched by the immense time, effort, and coordination required from everyone involved in our destination wedding. We feel incredibly fortunate as we reflect on the weekend's festivities and every cherished memory it created."
Ultimately, this extraordinary wedding celebration serves as a powerful testament to the enduring strength of love, the profound importance of family and friendship, and the joy found in creating unforgettable memories together. It highlights how shared experiences and mutual support can transform dreams into a beautiful reality, leaving a lasting impression of happiness and connection.
