In this week’s spotlight on girls soccer, we delve into the remaining undefeated teams across Colorado, beginning with the thrilling 5A showdown between the state's premier squads.
The landscape of Class 5A remains fiercely competitive, with several teams maintaining perfect records. Leading the charge is No. 1 Castle View (6-0-1), followed closely by No. 2 Boulder (5-0-2) and No. 3 Ralston Valley (5-0-1). Other notable contenders include No. 4 Cherry Creek (6-0-1), No. 5 Erie (4-0-1), No. 6 Denver East (2-0-1), No. 10 Fossil Ridge (2-0-4), and No. 17 Northfield (2-0-3).
Boulder’s Zoe Silver has been instrumental, scoring in consecutive games, most recently securing a 1-1 draw against Ralston Valley. As they prepare to face Castle View, the Panthers will need to replicate this form. Meanwhile, Castle View showcased their dominance with a resounding 6-0 win over Ponderosa earlier in the week. Cherry Creek, ranked fourth, demonstrated resilience by tying Fossil Ridge before thrashing Smoky Hill 5-0, thanks largely to Mikaya Rogers' eight goals this season.
Class 4A continues to impress with its own roster of undefeated teams, led by No. 1 Coronado (6-0-1) and No. 2 Green Mountain (7-0-1). Also in contention are No. 5 Pueblo County (3-0-2), No. 14 Lewis-Palmer (3-0-2), and No. 15 Palmer (5-0-2).
Pueblo County's Macey Martinez ensured her team remained unbeaten after scoring in the second half against Coronado, resulting in a dramatic 1-1 draw. Coronado further solidified their position with a commanding 10-0 victory over Mitchell, featuring contributions from nine different players. Green Mountain's Alyssa Hamilton leads the league with an impressive 17 goals, having achieved hat-tricks in her last two appearances. Lewis-Palmer faces significant tests ahead, including matchups against Lutheran and Erie, while Palmer secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Fountain-Fort Carson and followed up with a 2-0 win over Thomas MacLaren School.
Class 3A boasts formidable competition, with No. 1 Prospect Ridge Academy (7-0) leading the way alongside No. 2 Delta (7-0), No. 3 Alamosa (4-0), and No. 10 Pueblo Centennial (6-0-2).
Prospect Ridge Academy has dazzled opponents, posting an astonishing 28-1 goal differential through seven matches. Madison Skinner's dual role as scorer and playmaker was evident in her latest outing against The Academy, contributing two goals and two assists. Delta's Jessica Black, who topped the state charts last year with 47 goals, continues her stellar form with 20 goals this spring, reaching her century mark against Steamboat Springs. Alamosa added another clean sheet to their tally with a 3-0 win over Montezuma Cortez, while Pueblo Centennial has decimated their last four foes, scoring an incredible 54 goals while conceding only twice.
Class 2A presents intriguing dynamics, particularly since it lacks a clear leader despite Colorado Springs Christian holding the top spot despite suffering a setback. Windsor Charter Academy (second) and Dawson (fourth) remain undefeated, although their earlier encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Windsor Charter Academy's dominance is highlighted by a staggering 22-0 aggregate scoreline against three opponents. Their star striker, Kanoe Bihag, has amassed 109 career goals. Gilpin County's Jiselle Osteboe has scored in every game so far, netting eight times this season. Colorado Rocky Mountain, fresh off back-to-back 4-0 victories over Moffat County and Grand Valley, aims to build momentum after finishing below par last season.
