A Car with a Heart - Scottie Scheffler's GMC Yukon XL Auction
From Masters to Memories
In 2012, Scottie Scheffler's high school team attended the Masters. His dad drove them there in the family GMC with Scottie's sisters. However, the car broke down during the trip. On the Monday after the Masters, Scott Scheffler purchased a new white GMC Yukon in Augusta to drive home. This vehicle became known as "GMC Airlines" and accompanied him on countless journeys. It transported him to junior tournaments, AJGA events, and college competitions across the country. After graduating from Texas, Scott gave the car to his son, who drove it for eight years and covered 184,000 miles. He even put a new transmission in the car the day before leaving for PGA Tour Q-School in Alabama. It remained his primary vehicle even after he became a Tour winner multiple times. The Car and the Argument
Two years ago, while playing at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, not far from his home in Dallas, Scottie commuted in his Yukon. His caddie, Ted Scott, drove his 2008 Toyota Tundra from Louisiana. Standing on the range, a conversation sparked. Scottie's caddie insisted his Toyota would last forever and was worth more. But Scottie countered, stating that his car was worth more as it had the Masters GMC logo on the back and he was a Masters champion. This led to a friendly argument that continued as they hit balls.Giving Back with a Purpose
It was Scottie's dad who suggested giving the car to TOKC, a foundation started by James Ragan, a friend from junior golf who passed away from osteosarcoma. James's story touched Scottie's heart, and he saw this as an opportunity to make a difference. Scheffler signed the dash and the passenger side with a "First Owned Vehicle" inscription, adding a personal touch. Heritage Auctions, overseeing the auction, will donate 100 percent of its commission to TOKC.As the auction website notes, imagine owning the first car that Jack Nicklaus owned and drove cross-country from tournament to tournament until he won his first Masters. This is similar to the opportunity with Scottie Scheffler's 2012 GMC Yukon XL. It represents not just a vehicle but a journey of giving and memories.
