This Winter Showcase serves as the first public revelation of this season's routines. It provides a tantalizing glimpse into the hard work and dedication that the team has poured into their preparations for the competitive season. It's a community celebration of their remarkable talent and unwavering commitment, which has earned them national acclaim.

The energy and excitement in the air are palpable as the team gears up to showcase their skills. This is a moment of pride for both the dancers and the local community.

Gretchen Akers, the Studio Director of the San Clemente Dance & Performing Arts Center, shares her enthusiasm, saying, "This is always an exciting time for the team. It's the first time they will be showing their routine for the season to the families in the local community. It's truly exciting."

Dynamic Lineup of Performances

The showcase features an impressive lineup of performances by several local dance groups. Alongside the SCHS Dance Team's routines, audiences will be treated to captivating performances from South Coast Conservatory, Fringe Dance Studio, Sparkle Dance, Move and Groove from Boys and Girls Club, and the Fall Kids Clinic Dancers. One of the highlights will be a special excerpt from The Nutcracker performed by San Clemente Dance.

Akers emphasizes the diversity of the event, stating, "It's going to be so much fun, with something for everyone to enjoy. There's a wide range of styles and performances that will leave the audience in awe."

The combination of these different dance groups creates a dynamic and immersive experience that is not to be missed.

The Team's Composition and Leadership

This year's team is composed of 16 dedicated dancers who have been working tirelessly under the guidance of new head coach Kiki Galpin and dance administrator Amie Pekarek. Senior captains Kirra Akers and Reagan Veale have played a crucial role in leading the team through this transitional period, ensuring that practices remain focused and productive.

Akers praises the team's resilience, saying, "Our team has shown incredible growth this year, especially with the transition to a new coach. The captains have been instrumental in maintaining the team's high standards."

Their leadership and hard work have set the stage for a successful season ahead.

Outstanding Routines for the Competitive Season

The Winter Showcase will feature standout routines that are sure to leave a lasting impression. The team's signature novelty piece, known for its creativity and inclusivity, will take center stage. Additionally, their medium lyrical performance, which has always been a crowd favorite, will also be part of their repertoire.

Akers is excited about the new routines, stating, "This year, we are excited to showcase the new routines that have been choreographed. These routines will be competing in the spring, and our first competition is in January. It's an exciting time for the team."

The team's dedication to perfecting these routines is evident in their polished performances.

Financial Support through Fundraisers

As a parent-funded program, the San Clemente High School Dance Team heavily relies on events like the Winter Showcase to generate financial support. From costumes and travel expenses to choreographer fees, the funds raised play a crucial role in covering the significant costs of competitive dance.

Akers explains the importance of fundraisers, saying, "We do a lot of fundraisers. Agape is just one of our sponsors, and they're sponsoring this event. For every event, we have a sponsor, and for the concert, we'll have another sponsor. We also have give-back nights at restaurants and a poinsettia drive for winter. These fundraisers help us continue to pursue our passion for dance."

The team's hard work and determination are evident in their efforts to secure the necessary funds.

Dedication Beyond Performances

The dancers' dedication extends far beyond their performances. They practice daily, with only one day off per week, to ensure they are competition-ready. Their commitment is palpable in their polished routines and the passion they bring to each performance.

Akers highlights the team's work ethic, saying, "San Clemente is known for their novelty pieces, so we are excited to see what they have come up with this year. It's always a surprise, and it's a piece that includes everybody on the team. Their daily practice shows their dedication to excellence."

The team's young roster, with only three seniors, sets the stage for a bright future. Gretchen Akers praises the leadership of captains Kirra Akers and Veale, who have maintained the team's high standards during a season of change.

"They have done an amazing job with the transition of the coach. They continued with the conditioning until we got a coach," Akers says. Their leadership has been crucial in keeping the team on track.

The event not only celebrates their hard work but also serves as a steppingstone toward the competitive season. For many of the dancers, it's a chance to showcase their dedication and connect with the community that supports them.

Akers urges the community to come and support the dance team, saying, "Please come and support the dance team by coming to see our show. Your support means everything to us."
