The Sacramento State men's basketball team is set for a fresh start under the leadership of new head coach Mike Bibby. With an impressive lineup of experienced coaches joining his staff, Bibby aims to bring significant changes to the program for the 2025-26 season. The coaching staff includes Michael Bibby and Raymond Walcott as associate head coaches, along with Jason Fraser and Greg Moody II as assistant coaches. Each brings a unique background and extensive experience that promises to elevate the Hornets' performance on and off the court.

Michael Bibby, known for his defensive prowess, joins as an associate head coach after years in high school coaching and assisting with national teams. Raymond Walcott also steps into the role of associate head coach, bringing over a decade of training and coaching expertise in Phoenix. Meanwhile, Jason Fraser contributes NBA-level coaching skills, having previously worked with the Phoenix Suns and Villanova University. Lastly, Greg Moody II adds depth with his nine years of coaching at various levels, including five successful seasons alongside Coach Bibby at Shadow Mountain High School.

Leadership Duo: Michael Bibby and Raymond Walcott

With the addition of Michael Bibby and Raymond Walcott as associate head coaches, Sacramento State gains two seasoned leaders dedicated to shaping the future of the basketball program. Both bring rich histories in player development and championship-winning strategies. Their combined expertise ensures a robust foundation for nurturing talent within the team.

Michael Bibby’s journey from a standout Div. I athlete to a respected coach showcases his commitment to excellence. His recent tenure at Desert Mountain High School saw him excel not only as a recruiter but also as a defensive coordinator, leading the team deep into state tournaments. Prior to this, he honed his skills with Dream City Christian and even assisted the Puerto Rican National Team. On the court, Bibby demonstrated remarkable ability, earning accolades such as Arizona Player of the Year during his prep days. Now, armed with a degree in communication studies, he looks forward to guiding Hornets players through both athletic and academic challenges.

Complementing Michael Bibby’s approach is Raymond Walcott, whose thirteen years of coaching in Phoenix reflect a deep dedication to developing young athletes. As head coach/trainer for Dime Academy and Team Bibby, Walcott has been instrumental in achieving multiple state championships. Notably, their collaboration at Shadow Mountain High School resulted in an extraordinary record of 157 wins against only 21 losses, showcasing their unmatched synergy. Beyond coaching, Walcott has played a pivotal role in fostering community engagement, making him invaluable to the Sacramento State team. Together with his family, Walcott brings stability and vision to the coaching staff.

Supportive Roles: Jason Fraser and Greg Moody II

Jason Fraser and Greg Moody II round out the coaching staff, providing essential support through diverse experiences spanning professional leagues, universities, and high schools. These assistants enhance the overall strategy by contributing specialized knowledge gained throughout their careers, ensuring comprehensive preparation for every game.

A former McDonald’s All-American and Villanova standout, Jason Fraser transitions seamlessly between elite levels of basketball. His tenure includes prestigious positions with the Phoenix Suns and Austin Spurs, where he mentored current NBA stars like Devin Booker. In addition to coaching, Fraser excels in community relations and public speaking, attributes which will enrich Sacramento State’s outreach efforts. Having achieved personal success despite injuries, Fraser offers invaluable insights into perseverance and resilience. His leadership extends beyond the court; as Dean of Students and Athletics Director at Sun Valley Academy, Fraser exemplifies holistic education ideals beneficial to collegiate athletes.

Greg Moody II rounds out the coaching cadre with nine years of hands-on experience, particularly effective when paired with Coach Bibby at Shadow Mountain High School. There, he fostered numerous first-team all-state selections and secured scholarships for twelve players advancing to Div. I programs. Adept at mentoring junior varsity teams while supporting varsity successes, Moody balances broad responsibilities efficiently. His collegiate playing career highlights include leading conferences in assists, demonstrating strong leadership qualities inherited from his time as team captain. Married with a growing family, Moody embodies balance and professionalism, traits critical for nurturing well-rounded student-athletes at Sacramento State.
