It's that time of year when camera rumors start to heat up. Among the speculations for 2025, a rumor about the Fujifilm X-E5 has caught our attention. The X-E series is known for its compact rangefinder design with large APS-C sensors. However, separate rumors suggest that a new X-Pro model won't be launched in 2025.
Why a New X-E5 is Appealing
For several reasons, a new X-E5 is highly anticipated. It would essentially be a Fujifilm X100VI with the advantage of interchangeable lenses, which is a great feature for Fujifilm users. But what makes this rumor particularly interesting is the news that a new X-Pro model won't be coming in 2025. If these rumors prove to be true, the X-E5 could become the only new rangefinder-style sibling to the X100VI in 2025.Desired Features of the Fujifilm X-E5
As an owner of a Fujifilm X-T5, which I believe is one of the best photography cameras, my main hope for the X-E5 is that it replicates the X-T5's capabilities in a more compact form factor. The Fujifilm X-T50 has a mini-DSLR design, but the X-E series has a sleeker look with the electronic viewfinder neatly tucked away in the top-left corner, similar to the X100VI and X-Pro 3.I prefer longer focal lengths for street and travel photography. Having a compact body that can be paired with my XF35mm f/2 and XF50mm f/2 lenses would be ideal for daily carry when a larger setup isn't needed. The XF27mm f/2.8 R WR would also be a great companion. With the X100VI having in-body image stabilization (IBIS), it's almost certain that the X-E5 will have this feature too. Additionally, the latest 40MP APS-C sensor is handy for cropping. I can only hope for weather-sealing as well, although it might be a bit of a stretch. A single card slot and the old-school NP-W126S battery would be acceptable.Comparison with Other Cameras
In 2025, there will undoubtedly be more powerful and innovative cameras. Sony has been relatively quiet this year, so we can expect the launch of a Sony A7 V and perhaps an A7R VI. There are also rumors about the Ricoh GR IV and a possible Sony RX1 successor that might tempt us elsewhere. But for my needs, a modern and updated version of the X-E4 seems like the perfect fit. As long as Fujifilm can avoid the stock nightmares that have affected the X100VI and X-E4 in 2024, the X-E5 could be a great addition to my camera collection.
