In a move to promote sustainability and support families, Target is once again hosting its popular Car Seat Trade-In Event. This biannual initiative allows customers to exchange their old car seats for a 20% off Target Circle Bonus, which can be used towards the purchase of a new car seat, travel system, stroller, or select baby gear. The event not only provides a convenient way to responsibly dispose of outdated or damaged car seats, but also offers a valuable incentive for parents to upgrade their child's safety equipment.

Qualifying Car Seats and the Trade-In Process

Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats, as well as car seats that are expired or damaged. Customers can bring their old car seats to any participating Target store and deposit them in the designated drop-off boxes located near the Guest Services area. By scanning the QR code on the box using their mobile device, customers can easily add the 20% off Target Circle Bonus to their account, which can be redeemed twice towards the purchase of new baby gear.

Eligible Products and Exclusions

The 20% off Target Circle Bonus can be applied to a wide range of products, including new car seats, car seat bases, travel systems, strollers, and select baby home gear such as playards, high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers, walkers, entertainers, and jumpers. However, the bonus excludes Wonderfold, Doona, items sold and shipped by Target Plus, and clearance items.

Sustainability and Recycling Efforts

Target's commitment to sustainability is at the heart of this initiative. The car seats collected during the trade-in event are carefully disassembled, and their materials are recycled by Target's partners to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets, and construction materials like steel beams and carpet padding. Since the program's inception in 2016, over 3 million car seats, or 45 million pounds of car seat material, have been diverted from landfills and given new life.

Participating Stores and Event Dates

The Car Seat Trade-In Event is scheduled to take place from September 15 to September 28, 2024, at all Target stores, with the exception of select small format locations. Customers are encouraged to contact their local store for more information on the event and to confirm their participation.
