Chris Giles' basketball journey began in Alabama, where he led Parker High School to the AHSAA Class 4A boys' basketball championship in 1975. After a season with Southern Illinois, the 6-10 forward returned to Birmingham, determined to help establish the UAB men's basketball program.Blazing a Trail for the Fledgling UAB Program
In his second season at UAB and the Blazers' third season in existence, Giles played a pivotal role in the team's remarkable run to the Sweet 16 of the 1981 NCAA tournament. Under the guidance of coach Gene Bartow, UAB posted a 23-9 record, defeating Western Kentucky and Kentucky before falling to eventual national champion Indiana.Reaching New Heights: The Elite Eight Appearance

Despite being selected by the New Jersey Nets in the fifth round of the 1982 NBA Draft, Giles never played in an NBA regular-season game.
