RBC Appoints Seasoned Finance Executive as New CFO Amid Legal Dispute

Navigating Challenges, Driving Strategic Priorities

Experienced Leader Takes the Helm

Gibson, a 22-year veteran at RBC, has been serving as the interim CFO since April 5, following Ahn's dismissal. Prior to this role, she held the position of Senior Vice President for Enterprise Finance and Controller, where she demonstrated her expertise in global financial management and strategic leadership.Dave McKay, RBC's President and Chief Executive, praised Gibson's appointment, stating, "Katherine is an outstanding senior executive with global financial insights and leadership capabilities who can continue to advance our strategic priorities and position RBC for the future." McKay highlighted Gibson's deep expertise in both business and enterprise finance, as well as her significant contributions as the interim CFO over the past five months.

Reinforcing Internal Talent

The permanent appointment of Gibson as CFO comes after an extensive international search, underscoring the strength of RBC's internal talent pool. McKay expressed the bank's pride in Gibson's emergence as the top candidate, emphasizing the depth of expertise within the organization.

Navigating Legal Challenges

The announcement of Gibson's appointment coincides with new legal filings by Ahn's legal team in an Ontario court. Ahn's lawyer, Mark Fletcher, has reiterated her denial of any romantic relationship with a former treasury department executive, a claim that was previously used by RBC as a basis for her dismissal.Fletcher has alleged that the bank selectively quoted communications between Ken Mason, another former RBC executive, and Ahn in an attempt to "manufacture" a just cause for her termination. Mason is also suing the bank for wrongful dismissal.

Positioning for the Future

As RBC's new CFO, Gibson will be tasked with navigating the legal challenges while also driving the bank's strategic priorities and positioning it for future success. Her extensive experience in global finance and her proven leadership capabilities make her well-equipped to take on this critical role during a time of transition and uncertainty. The appointment of Gibson as RBC's new CFO underscores the bank's commitment to internal talent development and its ability to navigate complex legal and operational challenges. With her expertise and strategic vision, RBC is poised to continue its growth and maintain its position as a leading financial institution in Canada and beyond.
