Addressing the Causes of the Mairuwa Crash
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, attributed the tragic incident to a combination of factors, including poor vehicle maintenance, speeding, and disregard for traffic regulations. He emphasized that if the driver had observed established legal speed limits, ensured adequate vehicle maintenance, and complied with traffic rules, the crash could have been avoided.The crash involved a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number MRR 83 XA, which was transporting passengers from Kano. The FRSC boss stressed that the responsibility of maintaining road safety rests on the shoulders of everyone, including drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, and other vehicle owners. The report of the rescue operations conducted by the FRSC revealed the devastating impact of the crash. A total of 28 people were involved, comprising 23 male adults, one female adult, one male child, and three female children. Of these, 13 victims (11 male adults, one female adult, and one male child) were rescued with varying injuries, while 15 victims (11 male adults, one female adult, and three female children) were killed.The FRSC Corps Marshal expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stated that the rescued individuals have been taken to the Funtua General Hospital in Katsina for immediate medical attention.Calling for Collective Action
