Prime Video has officially greenlit a new UK-produced crime thriller series, "Dirty," from acclaimed writer Matt Charman. This series, marking a significant move for Amazon MGM Studios' international originals, promises a compelling narrative that redefines the British police drama genre. It delves into universal struggles such as familial bonds, ethical dilemmas, and the corrupting influence of authority, all presented through a complex interplay between a mother and her daughter.
The plot centers on trainee Detective Eva Bennett, who returns to Manchester to join a homicide investigation led by her formidable and estranged mother, Detective Chief Inspector Lois Mercer. As their fractured relationship is forced back into the spotlight, long-suppressed truths emerge, leading Eva to uncover her mother's illicit actions. This discovery forces Eva to confront an impossible decision: prioritize justice or protect her family ties.
Matt Charman expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the powerful and unpredictable nature of the two central female characters. He noted that the team at Amazon immediately grasped the vision for the show, appreciating its blend of character-driven drama and relentless pacing. The series, produced by Charman’s Binocular in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, with Foz Allan as executive producer, is set to begin filming in September 2026 and will be exclusively available on Prime Video globally.
This series offers a profound exploration of human nature, challenging viewers to consider the complexities of loyalty and the pursuit of truth within the confines of family and duty. It underscores the idea that even in the darkest corners of crime, there is always a deeper narrative of personal struggle and the enduring quest for integrity.
