In a significant announcement for the competitive gaming community, Pokémon Unite, the popular free-to-play MOBA title available on Switch and mobile, will cease to be a component of the main Pokémon World Championships starting in 2027. This decision, conveyed through an update on the game's official platform by The Pokémon Company, marks a pivotal shift in the game's esports trajectory.
Moving forward, Pokémon Unite will host its own exclusive event, the Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo. This new championship structure will kick off with regional qualifiers held online, tentatively scheduled to begin in November 2026, open to participants globally. These qualifiers will lead to a grand finale in late March 2027, an offline tournament in Tokyo, Japan, where up to 32 elite teams will compete for the ultimate title, with travel accommodations provided for all invited regional winners. The last Pokémon World Championships featuring Unite will take place in San Francisco, California, in August.
This strategic move reflects the evolving landscape of competitive gaming and aims to provide a tailored platform for Pokémon Unite's unique competitive scene. As the game continues to expand with new content and features, its dedicated tournament will allow for a more focused and grand celebration of its competitive spirit, offering a fresh stage for players worldwide to showcase their skills and strategy.
