The PlayStation 5 Pro initially stole the show with its remarkable ability to deliver visuals that were unrivaled on a game console. However, in the past almost two weeks, a wave of complaints regarding graphical glitches in popular games such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the Silent Hill 2 remake has emerged. This has led developers to finally take action and respond.

Developer Responses and Glitch Highlights

The official EA Star Wars account on X (formerly Twitter) shared on Nov. 18 that they are aware of issues with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on the PlayStation 5 Pro and are actively looking into it. Digital Foundry captured compelling footage of this glitch during its review, providing a clear visual of the odd flickering observed by players since the game received its PS5 Pro patch.Bloober Team also acknowledged similar issues with its Silent Hill 2 remake. Through an X post on Nov. 18, the studio promised to work on a fix. In a video, it becomes evident that there is something amiss with the lighting when the game is in Performance Mode. Moreover, a Reddit user who shared the footage stated that the sparkling persists even when switching to Quality Mode. While these are the two prominent examples, Alan Wake 2 players have also reported glitches on Reddit. The most notable one is the flickering sideburns on series writer Sam Lake's character Alex Casey. Although compelling footage of this twinkling facial hair has yet to be found, other graphical issues are briefly covered in another Digital Foundry video.Digital Foundry's reporting indicates that the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology on the PS5 Pro, which uses AI to upscale lower-resolution images and boost framerates, might be the culprit. One would expect a certain learning curve as developers adapt to the new hardware. But if problems persist or even multiply, it may require Sony's intervention to get games back to a non-glitchy performance level at least. The PlayStation 5 Pro's initial allure was its visual prowess, but these glitches have cast a shadow over its reputation. As developers continue to work on fixes and Sony assesses the situation, gamers are left waiting to see how this saga unfolds and whether the console can regain its visual glory.
