The 2025 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Women’s Tennis Tournament saw thrilling matches as top teams showcased their skills in Columbus, Georgia. Among the standout performances was the No. 28 Georgia College & State University (GCSU) Bobcats, who defeated No. 48 Augusta University 4-1 in the first round. This victory advanced them to a semifinal clash against the University of North Georgia. Meanwhile, Columbus State also triumphed with a decisive 4-0 win over Lander University, securing their spot in the semis. The second-seeded Flagler Saints breezed through their quarterfinal match against Georgia Southwestern without dropping a set, advancing to face Columbus State in the next round.
On April 25th, the John W. Walden Tennis Center hosted an exciting day of competition. GCSU's Bobcats started strong by taking control in doubles play. Their All-PBC players Jada Young and Victoria Conde Vendrell clinched a crucial 6-3 win at the No. 2 position, followed by Ashley Bentz and Shradha Chhabra sealing another 6-3 victory at No. 3. Moving into singles, Chiara Santoro and Rachel Black delivered impressive straight-set wins to extend GCSU's lead to 3-0 before Ashley Bentz ultimately sealed the deal with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.
In a separate matchup, Columbus State's Cougars demonstrated dominance over Lander University. Securing the doubles point early, Isadora Oliveira and Laura Pesickova won convincingly at No. 2 doubles, while Nikoline Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez completed the sweep at No. 1. Singles action saw similar excellence from the Cougars, with Gullacksen leading the charge at No. 1 singles, followed closely by Sofia Lauretti and Ramirez, each delivering resounding victories that solidified their team's place in the semifinals.
The quarterfinals also included a swift performance by the Flagler Saints, who faced Georgia Southwestern. Due to incomplete rosters, the Saints were awarded walkover victories at third doubles and sixth singles. Dana Heimen and Anastasia Nikolva excelled in doubles play, contributing significantly to the overall scoreline. In singles matchups, Sofia Balsera and Nikolva continued the momentum with dominant 6-0, 6-0 wins, ensuring a clean sweep and setting up a rematch against Columbus State, whom they narrowly lost to earlier this season.
As the tournament progresses, anticipation builds for these highly anticipated semifinal encounters. Both GCSU and Flagler will aim to replicate their quarterfinal successes against formidable opponents in North Georgia and Columbus State, respectively. These matches promise to deliver high-stakes tennis action, with each team striving for a spot in the championship final.
