This building, acquired by the Greenwood Plan earlier this year, has been transformed into a hub for Black-owned businesses. The former Gloria Jean's Coffees space was the perfect location for PAIR to set up shop. It offers a unique blend of affordability, approachability, and friendliness.During busy workdays, when there are many important tasks at hand, a short break can do wonders. Strutting down Smithfield in thrift store couture and arriving at a place with a good cup of coffee and a well-made sandwich or snack is a delightful experience.

Replacing the Familiar

Previously, the go-to break spot was Creative Coffee & Supply, which closed "temporarily" in April and never reopened. After that, the Downtown Starbucks didn't quite meet the mark. It's a busy corporate giant with sugared coffee concoctions and mass-produced snack packs. It didn't provide the relaxing break needed during the workday.For two months, there was nowhere to go. But in June, PAIR Charcuterie opened its doors, becoming the favorite place for a coffee, snack, or lunch on busy days. It is the brainchild of charcuterie maven Shaquala Swinton-Betts and her business partner Ieshia Hearn.
