The food drive by Erieview Elementary School students was a remarkable success. With the support of their teachers and the entire school community, they were able to collect an astonishing amount of food. This not only helped those in need but also taught the students the value of kindness and community service. The process of tallying donations by classroom and the excitement of seeing the paper turkeys increase with each increment added to the spirit of the event. It was a heartwarming sight to see the young students coming together to make a difference.
The nearly-two tons of food that were collected will have a significant impact on the lives of many in the Avon and Avon Lake communities. It is a testament to the power of community when children take the lead in such initiatives. The hard work and dedication of the Erieview Kids in the Community group are truly inspiring.
The Fall into Literacy event at Eastview Elementary School was a huge hit, attracting over 80 families eager to learn about the importance of reading. Literacy specialist Olivia Weisman was on hand to guide families through the various aspects of reading at home and engaging with children at different reading levels. Families rotated through stations labeled Decoding, Fluency, Comprehension, and ended in the gym and cafeteria where they perused community resources and enjoyed treats. This event was a great opportunity for families to come together and focus on the importance of literacy.
The support of Avon Lake businesses and organizations, along with the PTA and student volunteers from Avon Lake High School Key Club, National Honor Society, and Learwood Middle School, made the event possible. It shows the collaborative effort within the community to promote literacy and education. Such events play a crucial role in shaping the future of the community by instilling a love for reading in both children and parents.
