Otto Wallin's Birthday Fight - A Path to Redemption

Otto Wallin's Journey and the Unexpected Call

The 34-year-old from Sweden, now based in New York, was offered a fight with veteran Derek Chisora just a day after his birthday on November 21. Wallin, with a record of 27-2 (15 KOs), will face the 40-year-old Derek Chisora at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, England, on February 8. Originally, Jarrell Miller was supposed to fight Chisora, but that matchup fell through, presenting Wallin with a golden opportunity to revive his career after a tough loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2023.Wallin shared the story of the unexpected call. "We just got a call the day after my birthday, and we were offered the fight with Chisora. I told Jolene [Mizzone, his manager] that we should take it, and it only took us a few days to finalize the deal and sign the contracts. It was truly the best birthday gift I could've asked for. Boxing can be unpredictable as you're constantly training and waiting for the next opportunity. We had a feeling something was coming, and it worked out perfectly."

Chisora's Career Revival and the Upcoming Fight

Chisora is coming off a career-reviving win himself. In his last fight in July, he won a unanimous decision over Joe Joyce. Wallin respects Chisora but is aware of the veteran's age and potential wear and tear. "I think Chisora has had an outstanding career. He has fought against all the top guys and has always put up a tough fight. He has been through many battles, and now they say this might be his last fight in the UK. He may not have as much left, but he is still dangerous. He is aggressive and will definitely give his all. I'm prepared for a tough fight."

Wallin's Focus on the Win

When it comes to the fight itself, Wallin isn't concerned about style points. His sole focus is on winning. "It's crucial to perform well, but the most important thing is to secure the victory. If I don't win, none of the other aspects matter. For the next 10 weeks, it's all about working hard, getting in the best shape of my life, and taking care of Chisora. After that, we'll assess the next steps."Wallin has been working diligently with trainer Joey Gamache at Mendez Boxing in New York. He is determined to make the most of this opportunity and prove himself once again in the heavyweight division. With his eyes set on redemption, he is ready to give it his all in the ring against Derek Chisora.
