Feeding Families in Need: WFMY News 2's Food 2 Families Food Drive Returns

Greensboro, North Carolina - In a heartwarming display of community support, WFMY News 2's annual Food 2 Families Food Drive is set to return on October 25-26, 2024. This two-day event aims to collect much-needed donations for the Greensboro Urban Ministry's client choice pantry, ensuring that local families in need have access to nutritious and adequate food.

Empowering Families, Nourishing Communities

Donating for a Cause: Participating Locations and Items Needed

This year's Food 2 Families Food Drive will take place at various Walmart Supercenters, Neighborhood Walmart Stores, and Food Lion locations throughout Guilford County. Residents are encouraged to visit these participating locations on Friday, October 25th, and Saturday, October 26th, to donate much-needed items. The Greensboro Urban Ministry's client choice pantry is in dire need of canned fruits and vegetables, particularly those low in sodium and sugar, such as sweet peas, green beans, spaghetti sauce, mixed beans, corn, and applesauce. Protein-rich items, including canned chicken, soups, stews, mac and cheese, tuna, and chili with meat, are also highly sought after.Additionally, the pantry requires supplemental products such as rice, pasta, dry beans, peanut butter, crackers, oatmeal, and ramen noodles. Donations of baby formula, food, and diapers are also welcomed. Donors are kindly requested to avoid glass containers and #10 cans.

The Greensboro Urban Ministry: Providing Choice and Dignity

The Greensboro Urban Ministry's client choice pantry operates on a unique model, allowing community members in need to "shop" for the items they require, much like in a traditional grocery store. This approach empowers individuals and families to make their own choices, preserving their dignity and ensuring they receive the specific items they need to nourish themselves and their loved ones.During the spring of 2024, the Greensboro Urban Ministry reported serving an average of 165 households per day, a testament to the growing need in the community. As the cost of living continues to rise, many individuals and families are forced to make difficult decisions regarding their food, gas, and other essential expenses.

Monetary Donations: Supporting the Cause

For those unable to attend the Food 2 Families Food Drive, monetary donations can be made directly to the Greensboro Urban Ministry by visiting their website and selecting the "Donate to Food Pantry" option. These financial contributions will help the organization continue its vital work in providing emergency groceries and supporting the overall well-being of community members in need.

The Impact of Community Collaboration

The success of the Food 2 Families Food Drive relies on the collective efforts of the community. By donating non-perishable food items or making financial contributions, residents of Guilford County can make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors. This collaborative spirit not only addresses the immediate need for food but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion within the local community. As the Food 2 Families Food Drive approaches, the Greensboro Urban Ministry and WFMY News 2 encourage all residents to participate in this meaningful initiative. Together, we can ensure that no family in Greensboro and the surrounding areas goes without the nourishment they need to thrive.
