Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, bringing his college career to an early close. The Phoenix native made a significant impact during his freshman year in 2022, earning several Freshman All-America honors with six interceptions. However, injuries hampered his performance in subsequent seasons, particularly a hip injury that cut short his junior year after just six games. Despite these challenges, Morrison remained a valuable presence on and off the field, mentoring younger players and contributing to the team's success.

Morrison's journey at Notre Dame began with a promising start as a freshman. In 2022, he quickly established himself as one of the top cornerbacks in college football, intercepting six passes—a feat only matched by two other players in the FBS that season. His performances earned him numerous accolades, including Freshman All-America honors. Entering his sophomore year, expectations were high, but Morrison continued to perform admirably, adding three more interceptions to his tally along with 10 pass breakups and 31 tackles over 12 games.

The 2024 season proved to be a difficult one for Morrison. A shoulder injury sustained during spring practice required surgery, setting him back significantly. Nevertheless, he managed to recover in time for the season opener against Texas A&M. Unfortunately, a hip injury in the sixth game forced him to miss the remainder of the season. Despite this setback, Morrison's leadership was evident as he supported fellow cornerbacks Christian Gray and Leonard Moore, both of whom were stepping into starting roles for the first time.

Coach Mike Mickens praised Morrison's leadership and influence on the defensive backs unit. "Ben is just a great leader," Mickens said. "He’s very close to those guys, the whole group. He’s been through what Leonard and Christian are going through. That’s the great thing about it. You have somebody right there you can lean on and talk to."

Morrison became the first Notre Dame player to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Prior to the 2024 season, many draft analysts projected him as a potential first-round pick. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. anticipated Morrison would be selected late in the first round, while The Athletic’s Dane Brugler predicted a late second-round selection. Despite not reaching the heights expected due to injuries, Morrison's talent and experience make him a compelling prospect for NFL teams.

As Morrison moves forward into the next chapter of his career, his contributions to Notre Dame will not be forgotten. His freshman year set a high standard, and even though injuries derailed some of his plans, his leadership and mentorship left a lasting impact on the team. The NFL awaits, and Morrison is ready to take on new challenges with the same determination and resilience that defined his college career.
