Illuminating the Future: Super DIRT Week's Nighttime Transformation

As the highly anticipated Super DIRT Week approaches, the Oswego Speedway is set to undergo a significant transformation, with all feature racing events scheduled to take place under the lights. This shift in the event's format aims to provide the best possible track conditions and racing experience for both drivers and fans alike.

Unlocking the Secrets of Nighttime Racing

Embracing the Cooler Conditions

The decision to move all feature racing to the evening hours is a strategic one, as the cooler nights help maintain the moisture in the track and minimize dust, creating optimal conditions for thrilling on-track action. This change is expected to enhance the overall racing experience, allowing drivers to push their machines to the limit and fans to witness heart-pounding battles for the checkered flag.

Boosting the Purse and Prizes

In addition to the shift to nighttime racing, the 2024 edition of Super DIRT Week will also see a significant increase in the overall purse and special awards. With over $30,000 in additional prize money for the DIRT big-blocks, 358's, sportsman, and pro stocks, the total Super DIRT Week payouts have now reached an impressive $420,000. This influx of funds is sure to attract the top talent in the region, further elevating the level of competition and excitement for spectators.

Streamlining the Satellite Programs

As part of the revamped format, the number of Super DIRT Week satellite programs has been reduced to just one. On Tuesday, October 8, the Brewerton Speedway will host the 31st running of the Hurricane Harvey 75, featuring the DIRT 358 modifieds and DIRT sportsman. This focused approach allows for a more concentrated and immersive Super DIRT Week experience, with all the main events taking center stage from Wednesday through Saturday night.

Embracing the Charity Spirit

Super DIRT Week's commitment to giving back to the community continues with the third annual charity golf tournament, which will take place on Monday, October 7 at the Radisson Greens Golf Club in Baldwinsville. Last year, this event raised a record-breaking $60,000 for local charities, showcasing the event's dedication to making a positive impact beyond the racetrack.

Welcoming Back Familiar Faces

The 2024 Super DIRT Week will also see the return of some familiar names to the modified ranks. Second-generation standout Max McLaughlin, a rookie on the World of Outlaws late model tour, will be entering all modified events at Oswego, reuniting with his old Heinke-Baldwin modified team and teaming up with veteran driver Jimmy Phelps. Additionally, the Billy Whittaker Cars brand will continue its long-standing title sponsorship of the Super DIRT 200, marking the eighth consecutive year of their involvement.

Expanding the Fan Experience

In an effort to enhance the overall fan experience, Oswego DIRT officials have added more pre- and post-race bands and activities for attendees to enjoy. This move aims to create a more immersive and engaging atmosphere, ensuring that spectators have a memorable and well-rounded Super DIRT Week experience.

Streaming the Action

For those unable to attend Oswego in person, Dirtvision will be streaming all Super DIRT Week racing events. The Dirtvision fee of $24.95 per day provides fans with the opportunity to follow the action from the comfort of their own homes, ensuring that the excitement of Super DIRT Week is accessible to a wider audience.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Unfortunately, the scheduled pair of Super DIRTcar Series big-block modified races at the Atomic (Ohio) Speedway have been canceled due to wet grounds and a poor weekend forecast. The program will not be rescheduled, but the focus remains on the upcoming Super DIRT Week festivities.

Surrounding Events and Highlights

In the lead-up to Super DIRT Week, there are several other notable events taking place in the region. The Lancaster Speedway in Western New York will host the 36th annual U.S. Open special for modified stock cars, featuring a 101-lap main event on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Empire State Street Stock Series will have a 40-lap/$2,000-to-win main event at the Land of Legends Speedway in Canandaigua, along with races for the CRSA 305 sprints and sportsman divisions. The Utica-Rome Speedway will also be in the spotlight, hosting a two-day "Working Man's Special" program that includes a 40-lap STSS modified feature paying $4,000 to win. Reigning 2024 U-R modified champion, Matt Sheppard, has entered Saturday's program, adding to the anticipation.Looking ahead to 2025, promoter John Nicotra has announced the schedule for the Supermodified Challenge Series, which will feature four races at the Oswego Speedway, including two ISMA/MSS wing shows and a pair of non-wing programs. A $25,000 point fund will also be up for grabs, further elevating the prestige of this premier supermodified series. As the racing community eagerly awaits the arrival of Super DIRT Week, the excitement continues to build, with the promise of thrilling nighttime action, increased purses, and a host of surrounding events that will make this year's edition a must-see event for motorsports enthusiasts across the region and beyond.
