A new era of wireless charging for iPhones is on the horizon, promising significantly faster power delivery. The latest Qi2.2 standard, building on its predecessors, is set to boost charging speeds to an impressive 25 watts. This development is particularly exciting for iPhone users, as third-party accessories will soon be capable of matching the rapid charging performance previously exclusive to Apple's own MagSafe technology. Several prominent electronics manufacturers are already embracing this advanced standard, indicating a widespread rollout of these enhanced charging solutions in the near future.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) officially unveiled the Qi2.2 standard in April 2025, and on July 15, the first wave of products received certification. Leading the charge is Chinese electronics company Ugreen, with its MagFlow Magnetic Power Bank being the inaugural device to achieve Qi2.2 certification. This milestone marks a significant step forward, as it enables power banks and other wireless chargers to deliver the same 25W charging rate that the iPhone 16 series already supports via Apple's MagSafe charger.
Prior to Qi2.2, the Qi2 standard, introduced with the iPhone 15 and 16, and later extended to iPhone 13 and 14 with iOS 17.2, was limited to 15W. The transition to 25W for third-party accessories means a noticeable improvement in charging efficiency and reduced charging times for compatible iPhones. The Qi2.2 standard leverages magnetic alignment, a technology designed to minimize power loss and maximize the charging process's effectiveness, according to the WPC.
Beyond Ugreen, other major players in the mobile accessory market are quickly adapting to this new standard. Baseus has already secured Qi2.2 certification for one of its power banks, with another in the pipeline. Belkin has announced plans to release several Qi2.2-certified products in the coming months, while industry giants like Anker and Aukey, along with other original design manufacturers such as Scosche, CVSMicro, and BH EVS, are also preparing to launch their own versions. This widespread adoption suggests that consumers will soon have a broad selection of high-speed wireless charging options. Furthermore, rumors suggest that Apple itself is developing a new MagSafe charger that will be compatible with the Qi2.2 standard, further solidifying its position as the future of iPhone wireless charging.
While some of these cutting-edge chargers are already available for preorder, such as Aukey's 2-in-1 charging stand priced at approximately $60, others, like Ugreen's newly announced power bank, are still awaiting official pricing details. The rapid emergence of these products highlights a significant leap in wireless charging technology, promising a more seamless and efficient power experience for iPhone users globally.
