Over the weekend, the German marque made a significant announcement. At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, they unveiled the finished version of their first Mythos car, the AMG PureSpeed. This stylish speedster, equipped with a HALO system similar to that on Formula 1 cars, found the perfect stage for its debut.

The Debut and Visual Appeal
The AMG PureSpeed made its debut just six months after being shown in concept form before the Monaco Grand Prix. In the intervening months, it has remained largely unchanged, and that's a positive as it stands out as one of the more visually striking vehicles of 2024. It is an open-top two-seater without a windshield but with a protective halo system dividing the cabin. Two aerodynamic helmets with integrated intercoms allow the driver and passenger to communicate even at high speeds. Its front fascia is inspired by the AMG One hypercar and features two scoops behind the seats reminiscent of the 300 SLR driven by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson to victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia.Interior Features and Design
The example on display in Abu Dhabi was adorned in red and black racing-style livery with "10" on the fenders, similar to the winning Mercedes in the Targa Florio race in 1924. Other colors are available, including the marque's trademark Silver Arrow finish. The interior showcases a two-tone color scheme and a custom analog timepiece on the dash designed by IWC Schaffhause.Power and Performance
Mercedes has confirmed that the AMG PureSpeed will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 found in the sub-brand's SL63 roadster. With an output of 577 hp and 590 ft lbs of torque, it can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph. Other technical features include a nine-speed automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, ceramic composite brakes, and a suspension system with semi-active hydraulic roll stabilization.Mercedes has announced plans to build just 250 examples of the AMG PureSpeed. Although the company has not mentioned that it is sold out, there are likely still build slots available. No price has been announced yet, but it is expected to be significantly above the $208,150 starting price of the AMG SL63 S E Performance.Click here for more photos of the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed.
