A new chapter has begun for the Pacific men’s tennis team with Clifton Awuy stepping into the role of Head Coach. This decision follows Robin Goodman's choice to leave the program and explore a fresh professional avenue. Over the past two years, Awuy served as an assistant coach under Goodman, contributing significantly to the team’s achievements, including securing national rankings within the top 60. His efforts also helped propel the team to tie for second place in this year’s final West Coast Conference standings.
Under Robin Goodman's leadership over five seasons, the Pacific men’s tennis program underwent a remarkable transformation. Before his arrival, the team struggled with a record of 1-13. However, in recent years, they achieved a commendable 34-15 record (10-5 in WCC matches), even reaching the finals of the NIT Championship during the 2023-24 season. Adam Tschuor, Director of Athletics, expressed gratitude towards Goodman, acknowledging his pivotal role in elevating the program from barely fielding a team to becoming a respected, nationally ranked entity capable of defeating top-tier opponents.
Clifton Awuy brings extensive experience in tennis coaching, having previously directed Santa Clara's women’s tennis program and served as a volunteer assistant for their men’s team. With over 16 years managing the Thompkins Tennis Academy in Fremont, California, he has honed his skills working with both professional players and junior competitors. His lifelong dedication to tennis and proven commitment to nurturing student-athletes make him a perfect fit for leading Pacific’s men’s tennis program into its next phase of success. As we look forward, it is clear that passion, hard work, and vision will continue driving this program toward greater heights.
